Benjamin Moore has selected Webster Green as its Color of the Year 2027, ending years of debate over whether green represents a lasting design choice. The shade comes from the brand’s Historic Color Collection and embodies a classic hue intended to feel timeless rather than tied to any specific decade. As color marketing manager Arianna Barone explained, the goal was to choose a green that feels appropriate and fresh for today without evoking the 1920s or the 1960s.
Webster Green distinguishes itself through its neutrality—it lacks obvious undertones and avoids being too light or too dark. According to Barone, this quality makes it especially effective in rooms with architectural character, such as living areas featuring prominent fireplace mantels, bathrooms with wainscoting, or bedrooms with ceiling medallions. Benjamin Moore’s design team recommends applying it to trim while pairing it with off-white walls, a choice that guides the eye through ornate details without overwhelming the space.
A Classic Choice for Traditional Architecture
Webster Green was not created as a reaction to current trends, but as an established color within Benjamin Moore’s historic palette. Its balanced tone complements spaces with strong architectural features, allowing the design to shine rather than compete with the paint. Barone noted that the color works particularly well with brick exteriors, where it provides a refreshing contrast to door and window trim against the brick facade.
Pairing with the 2027 Palette
Benjamin Moore’s full 2027 color palette offers several options for combining with Webster Green. White Down, an off-white with creamy undertones, balances the saturation of the green while maintaining a neutral backdrop. For ceilings, Nelson Blue provides a pale blue alternative to white that pairs well with warm woods and terracotta elements like Antique Copper.
Warmth can be introduced through Shakespeare Tan, a golden neutral that shifts between amber and olive depending on lighting conditions. For a subtle softening, Wild Aster offers a barely-there pink that is described as a fan favorite among the color team. When incorporating brown tones, Durango millwork in a warm brown hue can satisfy olive preferences while maintaining cohesion with the green walls.
