The 550 J is a collaboration between Porsche and Hedley Studios, a UK firm specializing in small-scale replicas of classic cars. It captures the essence of the original, which gained fame through victories at events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the Carrera Panamericana, as well as its association with James Dean. Powered by an electric motor, the base model delivers 8 kW (11 hp) and reaches speeds up to 40 mph. An optional RS Package doubles the power to 16 kW (21 hp) and increases the top speed to 50 mph. Despite its capabilities, it is not street legal, ensuring it remains a track or private property novelty.
Hedley Studios meticulously recreated the design using 3D scans of the original and Porsche’s archival materials. The result is a faithful replica built from over 1,300 components. Like a full-size Porsche, the 550 J offers extensive customization options, including carbon-fiber body colors, leather interiors, and racing-inspired liveries. Hedley also provides access to Porsche’s Paint-to-Sample palette and historic racing decals, allowing owners to personalize their replica down to the smallest detail.
