ChrysCapital, a private equity firm in Mumbai, has unveiled a new workplace designed by lyth Design, led by principal designer Apoorva Shroff. The 929-square-metre office, located in Worli, Mumbai’s business district, draws inspiration from the firm’s name, symbolizing transformation and growth. Re-imagining the corporate workplace is no mean feat, yet this project successfully enhances everyday working life through its innovative design, blending creativity and originality.
A Transformative Design Inspired by Nature
Shroff’s design takes cues from the journey of a chrysalis becoming a butterfly, reflecting ChrysCapital’s commitment to supporting businesses through change. This theme is woven throughout the space, from the reception to the conference rooms, creating a cohesive narrative. The butterfly motif, as Shroff explains, “draws from the very essence of ChrysCapital’s name,” serving as a metaphor for transformation, growth, and renewal.
The office, situated on the top level of Ceejay House, offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea. Inside, the design blends traditional and contemporary elements, using materials like marble, brick, timber, and stained glass alongside exposed concrete and open collaborative spaces. The concept aims for a softer, more contemporary environment, far from typical corporate settings, creating a fluid and layered spatial experience.
Blending Tradition and Modernity
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a marble desk on a Victorian mosaic floor, with an overhead installation of butterflies that reflect light throughout the day. A curved brick wall divides the reception area, creating banquet seating on one side and acoustically insulated work booths on the other. Shroff notes, “The material palette was conceived to bridge two worlds: the timeless gravitas associated with traditional private equity firms and the youthful, contemporary character of the workplace,” says Shroff.
Stained glass pivot doors behind the reception area offer flexibility, providing an intimate space when closed and an expansive sea view when open. Conference rooms, named after butterfly species, further extend the design’s narrative. A timber archway leads to the main workspace, where rich timber panelling meets traditional and contemporary styles, supporting a timeless yet modern atmosphere.

Encouraging Interaction and Creativity
At the office’s center, an ideation space with casual stepped seating and a water feature promotes staff interaction. This area is screened by a detailed metal jali crafted by House of Berserk, featuring artwork that continues the butterfly and garden theme.
The primary workspace includes detailed timber desks on concrete floors, with monolithic planters sculpted from solid Indian marble adding greenery. A concise color palette of greys and blacks is accented by bold art pieces. Partitions are used minimally, with subtle zoning interventions maintaining openness and transparency. Shroff’s approach ensures a sense of flow, carefully curating sightlines to enhance connectivity.
The cafeteria, located at the office’s far end, features a softly curved ceiling that conceals services. This area supports interaction while offering a place of respite for staff and clients. Its design mirrors the overall ethos of the workplace, blending functionality with aesthetic appeal.
ChrysCapital’s new workplace seamlessly integrates design, function, and form. Shroff’s team has created a space that feels both timeless and contemporary, ensuring staff and clients feel at home.
