Anacapa Architecture’s design for Hope Ranch Estate is a finalist in the 8th annual GRAY Awards, On the Boards breakout category. The architectural vision for this estate departs from the conventional pursuit of distant vistas, instead focusing on crafting a dwelling that cherishes the essence of an internal sanctuary.
Nestled atop a serene knoll, the estate’s design features a central courtyard with spa-like retreat spaces, allowing residents to unwind and connect with nature. This intimate space is meant to be a haven of reprieve, where one can escape into the verdant surroundings. The incorporation of natural elements, such as vegetation and ample natural light, further enhances the sense of tranquility and connection to the outdoors, creating a seamless transition between the built environment and the surrounding environment.
Venturing below to the guest entry, a curated garden awaits, bathed in natural light. The abundance of vegetation in this space brings a fresh breath of life indoors, blurring the boundaries between exterior and interior.

Design and Features
In contrast to the primary residence, the rear of the property features an array of inviting elements, including guest quarters and an equestrian stable. These elements create an ideal setting for entertaining, with breathtaking views that stretch to the Santa Barbara mountains.
The design team, led by Principle Architect Dan Weber, Director of Design Tony Schonhardt, and Designer Asher Caplan, aimed to create a space that inspires and enhances the well-being of clients and the community. They collaborated with Places Studio to bring the design to life. The team’s diverse backgrounds and experiences contribute to a unique design approach, allowing them to craft spaces that not only meet but exceed client expectations, while also leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
